The Greene County senior center Receives $2500 FROM MEALS ON WHEELS AMERICA AND PETSMART CHARITIES® TO SUPPORT CLIENTs and their pets
Funding Will Assist Efforts to Keep Greene County Seniors and Their Pet Together Amid the Pandemic and Beyond
Snow Hill, NC, August 4th, 2020 – The Greene County Senior Center is proud to announce that it has received a $2,500 Meals on Wheels Loves Pets grant through Meals on Wheels America, for its pet support program, the Greene County Senior Center’s Furry Friends Project. Funding will be used to provide food, supplies and improved access to care for the pets of Meals on Wheels clients, which can often be a financial and physical challenge for older adults to manage on their own.
“It sad to see Older Adults that no longer have the funds to pay for food or purchase kitty litter, leading them to turn pets out on the street or send them to the local animal shelter. Many of our Home Delivered Meals Clients have pets in their homes that keep them company during the day. “ S. Harrison-Director
Funding for this grant was made possible through a partnership with PetSmart Charities, part of Meals on Wheels America’s strategic effort to combat social isolation and loneliness among seniors across the country. This year, PetSmart Charities’ support allowed Meals on Wheels America to grant $354,500 to 98 Meals on Wheels programs through the Meals on Wheels Loves Pets initiative, which ensures that homebound seniors and their animal companions can live happy, healthy lives together.
“The companionship a pet offers enhances the physical and mental health and well-being of homebound seniors, which is particularly valuable as so many older adults are feeling even more lonely and isolated amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Meals on Wheels America President and CEO Ellie Hollander. “We’re grateful for PetSmart Charities’ ongoing support, which has allowed us to invest Meals on Wheels Loves Pets grants in more local Meals on Wheels programs than ever before. This support will enable the Greene County Senior Center to provide pet supplies and care to local seniors, making it more feasible for seniors to remain safe and healthy at home with their beloved companions during this public health emergency and beyond.”
ABOUT THE GREENE COUNTY SENIOR CENTER’S FURRY FRIENDS PROJECT Funds will be used for pet food, pet supplies like kitty litter, carriers, leashes, crates, pet food storage, veterinary care, pet grooming, and temporary pet boarding expenses for Home Bound Greene County Senior Citizens at least age 60 and older. Please contact Sharon Harrison-Director at 252-747-5436 for more information or enrollment in the program.

Neuse Regional Library COVID-19 Update
For Owners of Temporarily of Partially Shut Down Business, Churches or School Building Water Piping
Water held unused in building pipes while businesses or activities are shut down or have unused floors or sections becomes stagnant. Conditions may develop increasing the risk for the growth and spread of waterborne bacteria, such as Legionella or biofilm, in the building piping. Disinfectant in the water, such as chlorine, will likely dissipate or become undetectable. Actions are necessary to ensure the water in the building is safe as well as taste and odor free before resumption of normal water use. The Center for Disease Control CDC) has very detailed information on reactivating plumbing systems after dormant conditions on its website at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/building-water-system.html.
